Lost Kids of Kenya - Activities

Specific Activities & Programs

Blessed Overcomers C.B.O.'s strategy is to organize its resources into tailored programs that will have a positive impact
on every individual it reaches.

SOCCER WITH A MEANING

We strive to use the sport of soccer to:

  • Create a rapport with the street kids and scout for varied gifting and talents that would offer an ideal path for reintegration back to the society.

  • Raise awareness on teenage pregnancies, STIs & HIV/AIDs amongst the older street children (12-18 years of age) and broaden their response scope.

  • Inculcate discipline and create within the children, the capacity to shun drug and substance indulgence.

  • Help the marginalized and forgotten children to release their pent up feelings of anger, hatred, guilt, shame. This is will hence, enable healing to take place as soccer acts as a conduit for therapy.
  • STREET OUTREACH

This activity entails sharing the love of God with the abandoned and unreached children who only know the streets as their home. As part of our strategy during this outreach, we hae attempted to create awareness on matters that affect the youth (i.e. drug and substance abuse, HIV/AIDs, and the need to have an understanding of good personal hygiene.

Through simple acts of giving (i.e. clothing and food rations which have been given to the centre by donors); the community's perception and attitude towards the street children has been impacted positively. Many individuals are now viewing them with love and compassion.

    TRAINING

Provision of relevant training to the disadvantaged children living on the street is key to helping them acquire necessary skills; and to avoid destructive practices, embracing value additive ones. The organization uses targeted approaches to address the plight of the street children in a holistic manner; focusing on those in Kisumu with relevant skills and technical training.

    ACCESS TO PRODUCTIVE OPPORTUNITIES

Provision of adequate productive opportunities is the responsibility of the government. However, this has failed to materialize for many reasons; among them, negligent governance policies, practices and poor accountability; as well as poor transparency and implementation mechanisms that aim at providing productive opportunities for the disadvantaged youth.
Blessed Overcomers C.B.O. therefore strives to influence various stakeholders at the central and local levels, in order to make them responsive to the plight of the street kids. At the same time, the organization uniquely employs innovative strategies; creating and providing productive opportunities to the street children in hopes they will pursue employment and earn a decent income, making their exit off the streets to lead a dignified lifestyle.
