Ministry Programs

WOMEN OF FAITH

This program was initiated to help women grow in Jesus (Romans 5:1&2) and with the mission to reach them in every part of Kisumu and Kenya; to show the world that we are workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them. The purpose of this program is to teach women how to live in all areas of their lives so that they bring glory unto God.

This program upholds the principles in the ministry of God; ministry of the Word of God; ministry in prayer and intercession; ministry to families; ministry to those in need; and finally, ministry to one another. Twice a year, Blessed Pentecostal sends out mission teams to teach and train women in both practical and spiritual needs.

THE ELDERLY PROGRAM

This program came to fruition as our church realized that the most neglected people in society are the elderly. We have come across a great amount of elderly people that had no food, shelter or clothing, and were without anyone to take care of them. We have also discovered that the living conditions of these forgotten elderly are far below standards, even for the African way of life. This elder generation has been literally left to fend for themselves. If there is no intervention, they will eventually die alone from malnutrition or other diseases onset by these living conditions. Examples of such situations are evident in the stories of these individuals:

ELIDA AJUMBO is 91 years old, blind, and lives alone. She often goes two or three days without food and her house is made of dried mud pushed between small timbers. The roof is simple thatch. Homes such as this disintegrate over time, as rain softens the dried mud causing the home to eventually collapse. Such is inevitable if the mud is not replaced yearly.

LEAH OKETCH is 85 years old. She is another elderly women who has been left to fend for herself. Her home is almost fallen down. With cataracts, a cane, and no family to help her; she is slowly starving to death.

SILVANUS OMANGA is 78 years old and has endured the passing away of his wife and children; but has also been left with eight grandchildren (between the ages of two and fifteen) to care for. He has to beg in the street, in hopes of making enough money to feed them all. They share one grass-thatched room.

Seeing the situation of the elderly in our city, we desired (and needed!) to start this program. While the members of our church sacrifice to help donate food and clothing, it is not enough because the poverty level in the rural areas and slums is great. Extra food is hard to come by. Sometimes they walk home, but it takes over an hour as they have to find pathways in bad weather. These pathways are near impossible to even use. We need your prayers and support to help this situation on the ground!

CHILDREN'S PROGRAM

Our church works in partnership with the Kenya Alliance for Advancement of Church (KAACR); so that our children will live in a society which provides them with the right to survive and develop to enjoy special protection against all forms of discrimination, neglect, cruelty, and exploitation.

OUTREACH PROGRAM

Our church has launched an evangelistic team with the ability to evangelize. We hold crusades; do door-to-door, hospital, and prison evangelism; teach about abstinence before marriage and that true love waits; and teach against drug abuse.

This particular program has been very difficult because when we venture out to do crusades; we are forced to hire a public address system and a van for transportation - which are both at high cost to us. If funds goes to such expenses, it then becomes hard to feed ourselves. Given this, we need further support in this area to be effective.

FEEDING PROGRAM

Twice a month, we provide food to street children. We cook the food, mobilize them and preach the Gospel to them; while providing counsel. Through this, we have managed to convince a number of them to go into rehabilitation centers and join our church, Blessed Pentecostal. Due to the inflation that has hit our nation, we stopped the program because no one was willing or able to donate food to help us nourish them. If we are supported financially, we will be able to get these children off the streets and continue to reach them for Christ.

WIDOWS & ORPHANS SELF-HELP GROUP

This self-help group was formed after ample consideration from the leadership of the church. The leadership recognized the plight of the members that were orphaned and widowed. Not to mention the fact that the number was growing at an alarming rate, caused by the HIV/AIDs pandemic and countless tropical diseases found around the lake region. Women, youth, and children are more susceptible and vulnerable to HIV/AIDs infections. They face many hardships, especially when the household loses the primary wage earner. Due to economic difficulties, even immediate family members are not in a position to take care of orphans in their families; most of them are left in the care of the church. If the church does not come to their aid to help; the children have a greater chance of dying at an early age, as they cannot attend school and lack food and shelter. The chance is also greater, that they may end up in organized crime, prostitution, drug addiction, and imprisonment - having been left to fend for themselves. This self-help group believes that orphans (as well as widows) deserve a chance to grow up with good morals and values; being good and responsible citizens of the nation and the whole world.

Our short-term objectives are:

  • To teach them various skills in order to generate their income;
  • To take care of the orphans by educating, clothing, and feeding them, and providing shelter;
  • To help them be self-employed for status elevation and poverty eradication;
  • To advocate awareness of the HIV/AIDs virus;
  • To evangelize and counsel this specific group of people.
  • Our long-term objectives are:

  • To purchase parcels of land;
  • To build a rehabilitation center;
  • To begin training centers for various trades and skills, including tailoring; wood and metal work; electrical and computer training; etc.
